Roxul – Flexibatt
Roxul is a mineral insulation made from a combination of basalt (volcanic) rock and recycled slag. Available in R14 for 2x4 and R22 for 2x6 walls, Roxul Flexibatt is a leader when it comes to R-value. It delivers top thermal performance to help keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. To reduce energy consumption, controlling rising fuel costs, and increase the year round comfort level in your home, rely on Roxul Flexibatt mineral wood insulation.
When insulating your attic, install two layers of Roxul Flexibatt. Fill the space between the joists with one layer, ensuring that the batt surface is level with the tops of the joists. Lay the second layer on top, perpendicular to the first layer, across the tops of the joists. When properly installed, Flexibatt ensures maximum R-value with no air gaps that can reduce R-value.
Flexibatt repels water to protect your R-value. It is a fact that moisture robs insulation of R-value. It is also true that moisture renders may other insulating materials ineffective – in some cases reducing their R-value to zero over time.
Tests confirm that Flexibat mineral wood insulation actually repels water to stay dry and protect its R-value. When you install Flexibatt, you can be confident that the R-value you install today will remain the same R-value in your walls for years to come.
Safe & Sound
Roxul Safe’n’Sound is made from non-combustible mineral wool so it does not burn and will not release any toxic gases. In fact, Safe’n’Sound is able to withstand the intense heat of temperatures approaching 2150 degrees Fahrenheit (1177 degrees Celsius) with out melting. It has been tested and proven to add to the fire resistance of a partition wall and delay the spread of fire when properly installed.
Roxul Safe’n’Sound is an exceptional barrier to the transmission of sound from room to room. It is 24% denser than thermal, exterior wall insulation and the higher density makes it very effective as a barrier to sound. In addition to the density factor, the non-directional fibre structure of each batt creates thousands of tiny inter-connected voids. These voids trap vibrations created by should waves that penetrate the wall. Once these vibrations are trapped the sound energy dissipates, significantly reducing the transference of noise form one room to another.
To enhance the sound absorption of your partition walls even more, use resilient channels in conjunction with the Roxul Safe’n’Sound.
Proper fit is critical for optimum performance. Ensure you have the right batt size for your wall cavity and take your time during the installation process. Once complete you’ll enjoy both peace of mind and peace and quiet for many years to come.
Safe’n’Sound comes in two widths for wood stud walls and two widths for steel stud walls. Batts are 3” thick to ensure a ½” gap between the face of the insulation batt and the back of the drywall. This gap maximizes performance as a barrier to sound transmission.
Safe’n’Sound cuts easily with a serrated knife so you can fit batts properly and completely around pipes, electrical boxes and wiring. Always avoid ripping and tearing – you won’t save any time and you will compromise the effectiveness of your insulation. |
